Luxury holidays using low cost airlines
by triangletravel

The sale of GB Airways to Easyjet saw the demise of many routes into European destinations and meant that travel agents could not offer a scheduled service, let alone a business class product. However, as the low cost airlines take on more and more holiday routes, it has become virtually impossible to avoid travelling with one of them.

So here are my tips for using a low cost airline on a luxury holiday: -

Check if the low cost airline allows you to check in the night before. If so, book yourself an airport hotel and check your luggage in so you can go straight to security in the morning. Make sure you book sufficient luggage allowance at the time of the booking so you don’t have the worry of paying excess luggage charges at the airport.

Do not book a product that lets you board early, like speedy boarding. Most of the time it is a mad scramble and the “board faster” product gets pushed aside. Just sit back and join the queue at your own pace.

When booking your flights, consider if the destination you are visiting has a lively resort. If so take the most civilised timed flights; they tend to be more expensive but the “Club 18-30” crowds will go for the cheaper options meaning you can get some peace and quiet from groups drinking all the way to their destination.

Get to the airport in plenty of time and grab something to eat from one of the many eateries. This allows you to pass the time and means you do not have to pay for expensive, sub standard food on board.

Keep your hand luggage to a minimum, so you can put it under the seat in front of you. This allows you to find a seat straight away and you do not have to struggle for overhead locker space.

Make sure your travel agent arranges a private transfer at your destination so when you leave the airport you can be taken in style to your luxury hotel, whilst the crowds queue for taxis.

Finally, if you still cannot face a low cost airline, look at a scheduled service, even if it goes via another city. It may add time to your journey, but least you can travel in style!!!!!
